A software developer is someone who makes computer programs and apps. They use special computer languages to create everything from games on your phone to big programs that companies use. Their job is to write “code”, check it to make sure it works right, and fix any problems.

Q:What is Vault Technologies?
A:Vault Technologies is a US-based tech company owned by a Black American woman. They build software applications that are used in healthcare and public health. One of their main systems, called PrepMod, is the #1 software application in the US for organizing large-scale community health events. The mission of the training program is to give young people from other countries opportunities to start careers in technology.
Q:What is the Free Software Developer Training Program?
A:This program is a nine-month course you can do on your own. It is for young women aged 17 to 23 to learn how to be beginner software engineers. You don’t need any past experience to start.
Q:What will participants learn
A:You will learn how to make software and how to solve problems. The lessons start easy and get more challenging, helping you become a beginner software engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Q:What SKILLS DO YOU NEED FOR THIS PROGRAM?
A:You need to be good at writing and talking, and you should be able to follow instructions. You also need to be good at solving problems and thinking logically.
Q:Do I need to know how to code already?
A:No, you don't need to know coding before you start. This program is for beginners.
Q:What will participants learn
A:You will learn how to make software and how to solve problems. The lessons start easy and get more challenging, helping you become a beginner software engineer.
Application & Selection
Q:How do I apply for the program?
A:You can apply on our website. You also will need three letters of recommendation.
Q:How are participants chosen?
A:We have a one-day event to meet you and learn more about you. We pick the top ten people from this event.
STRUCTURE & TIMELINE
Q:WHAT IS THE PROGRAM LIKE?
A:It is a course you do by yourself with six in-person meetings. It starts with a one-day event. You can work at your own speed, but you need to follow a schedule.
Q:WHEN IS THE PROGRAM?
A:It starts on February 1, 2025, and ends on November 30, 2025.
Q:WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM?
A:When you complete the program, you will get a certificate from our company showing you've learned all the skills needed to be a junior software engineer. We also work with tech companies to try to help you find software engineer internships or jobs.
SUPPORT & RESOURCES
Q:What else do I get from the program?
A:Each person will get a computer to use and a small stipend each month to help pay for things you need like internet service.
Parental Involvement

Q:What is required of my parents?
A:Your parents must help you with the program. They should make sure you are following the schedule and attending all of the meetings.
CAREER OUTCOMES
Q:What happens after I finish the program?
A:If you finish the program successfully, we expect that you will be ready to start looking for a job as a junior-level software engineer. In Jamaica, you could earn about $3.2 million JMD a year. In the US, you might start at $65,000 USD a year.
Q:Am I guaranteed a job after I finish the program?
A:No. At this time, we cannot promise you a job. However, we will work with our partners in Jamaica and the US to help find you an internship or a job.
